How it works

Our choice in information technology seeks to reflect the values of our mission. For this reason, the site is run on an open source content management platform called Drupal, which uses the slogan "community plumbing" to describe its philosophy.
It is also facilitated by the ongoing development of standards that facilitate self-publishing internet forms such as blogs, and everything associated with "Web 2.0" (see article by O'Reilly or on Wikipedia).
One of the more important Web 2.0 concepts implemented here is the idea of "folksonomy", which is, defined on Wikipedia, a "collaboratively generated, open-ended labeling system that enables Internet users to categorize content such as Web pages, online photographs, and Web links". The categories/tags on the left of this site reflect a taxonomy that intends to bring together actors, places, and issues typically separated via geography or narrow visions that only examine one part of our food supply system. Each post can be categorized to numerous categories.
